CHAPTER 1 — The Dog That Never Made Mistakes

It was supposed to be an ordinary Tuesday morning.

Thousands of travelers filled the international terminal. Businessmen rushed toward their gates while exhausted parents struggled with crying children. Flight announcements echoed through the massive building every few minutes, blending with the rolling sound of luggage wheels across polished floors.

Airport Security Officer Daniel Brooks walked calmly through Checkpoint C with his partner, Max.

Max wasn't an ordinary dog.

The seven-year-old Belgian Malinois had spent years detecting explosives, narcotics, counterfeit currency, and even hidden electronic devices. During his career, Max had helped prevent several dangerous incidents and had never once given a false alert.

Not once.

Passengers often smiled when they saw him.

Children loved him.

Adults admired him.

But every experienced officer knew one rule:

If Max barked... something was wrong.

That morning Max suddenly stopped walking.

His ears shot forward.

His muscles became stiff.

His nose twitched rapidly.

Officer Brooks immediately noticed the change.

"What is it, buddy?"

Then it happened.

BARK!

The loud bark echoed through the security hall.

People turned around.

Max wasn't looking at a suitcase.

He wasn't looking at a backpack.

He wasn't looking at an abandoned package.

He was staring directly at a tiny blonde girl standing only fifteen feet away.

She couldn't have been older than five.

She wore pink sneakers, a yellow sweater, and carried an old brown teddy bear with one missing eye.

The little girl looked frightened.

Beside her stood a young couple.

The man smiled nervously.

"There must be some mistake."

The woman wrapped both hands around the child's shoulders.

"My daughter is afraid of dogs."

But Max refused to move.

Instead...

His barking became even louder.

Officer Brooks slowly approached.

"I'm sorry, folks."

"The dog has detected something."

"We need to conduct a secondary inspection."

The father immediately handed over their passports.

"Of course."

"We understand."

The family was escorted into a private inspection room.

Every suitcase was opened.

Every pocket was searched.

Shoes...

Jackets...

Electronics...

Toiletries...

Even the child's backpack.

Nothing.

Not a single prohibited item.

The officers exchanged confused looks.

One supervisor whispered quietly,

"Could this actually be Max's first mistake?"

Officer Brooks shook his head.

"No."

"I've worked with him for five years."

"He doesn't make mistakes."

Then something strange happened.

Max ignored every suitcase on the floor.

Slowly...

Very slowly...

He walked toward the little girl.

She clutched her teddy bear tightly against her chest.

Tears filled her eyes.

"Please..."

"Don't take Mr. Teddy."

Max stared at the toy without blinking.

His breathing became faster.

Officer Brooks knelt beside the girl.

"Sweetheart..."

"Can I please see your teddy bear?"

The little girl looked at her mother.

The mother answered far too quickly.

"No."

"It's her comfort toy."

"She can't sleep without it."

That answer immediately caught Brooks' attention.

Why refuse such a simple request?

Before anyone could react...

Max suddenly lunged forward.

With one powerful bite...

He ripped the teddy bear straight out of the little girl's hands.

The room exploded into chaos.

The child screamed.

Her mother shouted,

"STOP HIM!"

The father rushed forward.

Officers restrained him instantly.

The teddy bear hit the floor.

Its old stitching began to split apart.

Then...

A tiny metallic object rolled across the white tiles.

Everyone froze.

Officer Brooks slowly picked it up.

His face instantly turned pale.

"This..."

"This isn't part of a toy."

And suddenly...

Max barked louder than ever before.

No one in that room had any idea...

May you like

The nightmare had only just begun.
