Chapter 4 - THE TRAP IS SET

Elena didn’t flinch. Instead, a slow, cold smile spread across her lips.

“Fifteen million?” she asked softly.

“Fifteen million,” Julian repeated, thinking he had won. “Small price to pay to keep your precious son safe and protect your family name.”

Elena picked up her pen, twirling it between her fingers. “I need twenty-four hours to liquidate that amount of cash from my private holdings without triggering board alerts. Meet me tomorrow night at 8:00 PM at the Grand Horizon Ballroom. There is a charity gala happening there. I’ll hand over the certified cashier’s check in private.”

Julian’s eyes gleamed with greed. “I knew you were a smart girl, Elena. See? We always made a great team.”

He picked up his coat, blew her a kiss, and strutted out of the office, feeling like the king of New York.

The moment the doors closed, Marcus re-entered the room.

“You’re not actually giving that scoundrel fifteen million dollars, are you?” Marcus asked, his jaw tight with anger.

“Of course not,” Elena said, her eyes cold as ice. “Julian thinks he’s playing chess, but he doesn't even realize he’s standing on a trap door.”

Elena picked up her phone and dialed a private contact.

“Detective Reynolds?” Elena said into the receiver. “It’s Elena Vance. I have the evidence package on Julian Sterling’s offshore accounts ready. But I need you to execute the arrest warrant at a specific venue tomorrow night… in front of every news camera in Manhattan.”
