Chapter 6 - THE UNMASKING AND THE NEW BEGINNING

The morning sun broke through the heavy iron gates of the St. Jude Sanitarium, casting long, golden shadows across the stone courtyard.

A fleet of black SUVs tore through the gates, stopping abruptly in front of the main entrance. Dominic Moretti stepped out, followed by a team of his most trusted men.

The corrupt facility staff, realizing the Moretti syndicate had arrived, offered no resistance. They handed over the keys to the high-security ward without a word.

Dominic walked down the sterile, white corridor. His heart hammered against his ribs—a feeling he hadn't experienced in years.

He stopped in front of Room 404.

He pushed the door open.

The room was bathed in soft morning light. Sitting by the window, looking out at the trees, was a woman. She was thin, her skin pale, but her dark hair fell in soft curls over her shoulders.

"Rosalie," Dominic whispered.

The woman turned her head slowly. Her eyes, beautiful and deep, widened in shock. For a second, she looked afraid, as if she were seeing a ghost. But then, as Dominic took off his coat and dropped to his knees beside her chair, tears began to stream down her face.

"Dominic?" she breathed, her voice raspy from years of disuse. "Is... is it really you?"

"I'm here," Dominic choked out, burying his face in her hands. "I'm so sorry, my love. I'm so sorry I didn't see. I'm sorry I didn't believe you."

"The children..." Rosalie sobbed, clutching his head to her chest. "Are they... are they safe?"

"They are safe," Dominic promised, looking up at her. "They are waiting for you at home."

Two weeks later, the atmosphere in the Moretti mansion had completely transformed.

The heavy, dark drapes had been pulled back, allowing the summer sun to flood the grand rooms. The dining table was no longer a place of fear and tension.

Rosalie sat in her rightful place, her color returning, her eyes bright as she watched her children.

Mateo, Enzo, and Lucia were no longer screaming or shattering plates. They sat close to their mother, eating their breakfast with genuine smiles on their faces.

At the far end of the dining room, near the service corridor, Ellie Harper stood with her mother, Sarah. They were dressed in beautiful, clean clothes—no longer servants, but welcomed guests of the family.

Dominic stood up from his seat. He walked over to Ellie and knelt down to her eye level. He placed a beautiful, small silver box in her hands.

"Open it," Dominic said with a warm smile.

Ellie opened the box. Inside was a stunning silver necklace with a pendant shaped like three stars.

"You saved my family, Ellie," Dominic said softly, so the whole room could hear. "From this day forward, you and your mother are Morettis. No one will ever make you feel small again."

Ellie looked from the necklace to her mother, who was crying tears of joy, and then to Rosalie, who blew her a gentle kiss from the table.

"Thank you, Mr. Moretti," Ellie said, a bright, beautiful smile lighting up her face. "But I was just looking closely."

Dominic laughed—a sound that hadn't been heard in the mansion for three long years.

"And thank God you did," Dominic said, standing up and pulling Ellie into a warm embrace.

The nightmare was finally over. The house that had been built on secrets and silence was now filled with the sweetest sound of all: the laughter of children who were finally safe, and a family that was finally whole.
