Chapter 3 - THE SECRET FOLDER THAT TURNED A CAPTAIN INTO A CRIMINAL!

Ryan stared at the flash drive in my hand, his breathing shallow and ragged. The entire ballroom was dead silent, watching the golden boy of Fort Belvoir fall apart at the seams.
“You think you have proof?” Ryan sneered, trying to summon a final ounce of bravado, though his knees were visibly shaking. “You have nothing. I am a decorated officer. My record is spotless. You’re just a bitter wife trying to fabricate a scandal because our marriage failed.”
“Our marriage didn’t fail, Ryan. You used it as a cover,” I replied, my voice slicing through his pathetic defense. “You thought marrying a quiet, unassuming woman from out of state would give you the perfect domestic shield. You thought I was too stupid to notice when you stayed up until three in the morning encrypting files on your laptop.”
I took a step closer to him, watching him flinch.
“But you made a fatal mistake. You left your secure token hidden inside the lining of your dress uniform jacket. The very jacket I take to the dry cleaners every single week.”
A low murmur broke out among the officers at the surrounding tables. In the military, compromising a secure cryptographic token is a federal offense that carries decades of prison time.
“Three weeks ago, I found the hidden partition on your hard drive,” I continued, my voice entirely devoid of emotion. “I found the folder titled 'Project Horizon.' Do you want me to tell General Mercer what was inside that folder, Ryan? Or would you prefer to explain it to the military tribunal yourself?”
Ryan’s mouth opened, but no sound came out. His eyes darted around the room, desperately looking for an ally. But every officer who had been laughing and drinking with him minutes earlier was now looking away, utterly disgusted.
“Inside that folder,” I said, turning toward General Mercer, “were detailed manifests of black-market sales to unauthorized foreign buyers. Over four million dollars worth of advanced military communication arrays, stolen directly from government inventory. And the offshore account receiving the funds? It’s co-signed by Captain Whitaker and his mother, Patricia.”
“You miserable little viper!” Patricia shrieked, losing all semblance of high-society elegance. She lunged forward, her acrylic nails clawing at the air toward my face. “I’ll kill you! You ruined our lives! You ruined my son’s future!”
The younger MP didn’t hesitate. He grabbed Patricia’s arms, twisting them behind her back in a swift, practiced motion. A loud click echoed through the ballroom as steel handcuffs snapped around her wrinkled, diamond-decked wrists.
“Let go of me! Do you know who I am?!” she screamed, kicking her heels against the floor as she was forced down. “Ryan, do something! Call our lawyers!”
But Ryan couldn’t do anything. He was looking at the doors of the ballroom.

Four more federal agents, wearing dark suits with tactical vests reading CID, strode into the room. They marched straight past the glittering tables, their expressions grim and unyielding.
“Captain Ryan Whitaker,” the lead agent said, drawing a pair of heavy-duty cuffs. “By order of the Pentagon Internal Affairs Division and under the authority of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, you are being placed under arrest for grand larceny, treason, and conspiracy against the United States.”
