Chapter 15 - Inside the Lion’s DenThe interrogation room at Federal Plaza smelled of cheap coffee, floor wax, and bureaucratic despair.

Across the steel table sat Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Vance—no relation to Viktor, though she had spent the last five years trying to nail the international syndicates to the wall. She opened my leather briefcase, flipping through the meticulously organized ledgers, cross-referencing encrypted digital keys with legitimate real estate deeds.

"You're walking into a federal building with enough self-incriminating documentation to sink half the syndicates on the East Coast," Sarah said, her eyes sharp, analytical, and deeply suspicious. "What's the catch, Mr. Hale? Are you cutting a deal?"

"I'm not cutting a deal, Counselor," I replied, leaning back in the metal chair, my hands cuffed lightly—not because I was a flight risk, but because protocol demanded it. "I'm cleaning house. Viktor Vance tried to use my name to shield his empire of blood. The Bratva in Moscow is trying to use my legitimate holdings to launder their dirty money. I spent thirty-four years believing that you have to be a monster to survive in this city. I'm proving today that you don't."

Sarah stared at me for a long, silent moment. She had spent her entire career chasing ghosts in tailored suits who lied with every breath. She wasn't used to a mafia boss walking in and handing over the keys to his own kingdom voluntarily.

"If I take these records," Sarah said slowly, "I have to investigate every single entity listed here. That includes your construction fronts, your shipping distribution, and your personal accounts."

"Investigate all of them," I said. "Start from page one."

Three days later, the federal prosecutor's office announced a massive, sweeping RICO indictment—not against Daniel Hale, but against the hidden Russian syndicate board that had been attempting a hostile takeover of my assets. Gennady Rostov was arrested before he could board a private flight to Moscow.

The financial siege collapsed overnight.

My lawyers called me, sounding like they had just seen a ghost. "Boss... the DOJ cleared our accounts. They found no illicit transactions in the current portfolio. How did you...?"

"I stopped running from my past," I said simply, and hung up.
