Chapter 5 - The ChallengeJulian scrambled to his feet, stammering. “S-Sawyer! You’re... you’re supposed to be resting at home.”

“I was resting,” Sawyer said smoothly, rolling forward until his chair locked at the head of the table. “Resting long enough to realize that leeches like you were trying to drain the foundation while I was distracted by my own shadow.”
June leaned over and whispered loudly to Lila, “Is that the bad man who took our old house?”
“Yes,” Lila nodded, staring at Julian with the lethal intensity of a sniper. “He’s very ugly on the inside.”
Laughter rippled through the back of the room, instantly destroying Julian’s professional authority. Furious, Julian lunged forward. “Get those filthy strays out of here! And as for you, Sawyer, you’re legally unfit to manage this company—”
“Try me,” Sawyer interrupted. He didn't use the microphone. He stood up.
