Chapter 10 - The Ultimate TwistThe morning sun broke over the Atlantic Ocean, casting a brilliant golden glow across the manicured lawns of the Hamptons estate.

Two black unmarked vans rolled away from the property down the private driveway, carrying Marcus and Elena toward an undisclosed destination from which neither would ever return. The estate was immaculate again—the broken glass swept, the blood scrubbed from the marble, the security logs wiped clean and reset by top-tier cryptographic engineers.

In the private study, Viktor Kovac stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, staring out at the crashing waves.

The door opened softly. Rachel Chen walked in, wearing civilian clothes now—a crisp linen blazer and dark trousers. She carried a single manila folder and placed it on the mahogany desk.

"The federal task force thinks Elena fled to South America," Rachel said evenly. "Her asset accounts have been frozen, and the Chicago syndicate is currently tearing itself apart trying to figure out who leaked their financial ledgers."

Viktor turned around, leaning against the edge of the desk. He crossed his arms, studying the woman who had upended his entire world in less than twelve hours.

"You know," Viktor said slowly, "my brother’s will left everything to his estate executor until a suitable partner was found to run the syndicate."

Rachel raised an eyebrow. "Is that so?"

"And according to the legal bylaws," Viktor continued, a faint hint of a smirk touching the corner of his mouth, "the executor has absolute authority to appoint a co-director in times of emergency and internal betrayal."

Rachel looked at the manila folder, then back up at the most dangerous man on the East Coast. A slow, knowing smile touched her lips.

"Are you offering me a job, Mr. Kovac?"

"Not a job, Captain Chen," Viktor said, picking up the folder and sliding it across the desk toward her. "A partnership. After all... you've already proven you're the only person in this house who can keep me alive."

Rachel opened the folder. Inside was not an employment contract, but a notarized deed granting her 50 percent operational control of the Kovac global logistics network—and a brand new security clearance badge bearing the title: Chief Director of Intelligence.

She looked up, her dark eyes flashing with ambition and power.

"Consider your security upgraded," Rachel said, extending her hand across the desk.

Viktor took it, sealing a pact born of blood, betrayal, and a single whisper in the dark.
