Chapter 5 - The Digital Trojan HorseMargaret’s eyes narrowed, a flicker of genuine unease crossing her face for a split second before she masked it with a sneer. “You’re bluffing. The local network is severed. Nothing leaves this house.”

“Really?” Daniel pulled his phone from his pocket, holding it up. The screen wasn't showing a cellular signal, but a localized green transmission pulse. “You forgot about the secondary mesh network I installed for our smart-home automation diagnostics last month. It operates on an independent encrypted satellite frequency. The moment you locked down the house, the system automatically flagged a hostile intrusion protocol and beamed the entire master archive—video, audio, and medical logs—directly to the Federal Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as my personal legal team downtown.”
Margaret’s face drained of color. The sophisticated, untouchable matriarch mask shattered completely, leaving behind a desperate, aging woman realizing the trap had just snapped shut on her own neck.
“You… you lying little bastard,” Margaret hissed, lunging forward to snatch the phone from his hand.
But she was too late.
Sirens began to wail in the distance—faint at first, muffled by the stormy night air, but growing rapidly louder, sharper, and unmistakable as they tore down the private winding road leading to the Sterling estate. Red and blue lights began to flash frantically against the basement window wells, painting the concrete walls in an urgent, crimson glow.
“That’s not local county police,” Daniel said calmly, watching the headlights cut through the fog outside. “That’s the federal marshal service accompanied by the state financial crimes unit. They move fast when multi-million dollar corporate fraud and forced chemical endangerment are flagged at the executive level.”
Panic finally took hold of Margaret. She turned wildly toward the stairs, abandoning her composed demeanor as she scrambled up the steps, desperate to reach her office, her shredder, her escape route.

“Don’t let her get to the master server!” Ava yelled, her energy returning with a fierce adrenaline spike.
Daniel didn't hesitate. He vaulted over the table, sprinting up the stairs after his mother, leaving the dark basement behind as the true reckoning finally began.
