Chapter 8 - THE ULTIMATE TWISTLyra stood up from her chair and walked slowly around the desk, stopping just inches from the stunned matriarch.

“My father didn't hide for thirty years because he was running from the Sterlings, Grandma,” Lyra said, her voice eerily calm, carrying a weight that felt heavier than all the corporate empires combined.

Eleanor clutched the letter to her chest, tears streaming down her face like broken glass. “He... he said... he said...”

“He said he had to disappear because the person who ordered the hit wasn't an enemy,” Lyra continued, her green eyes piercing straight through Eleanor’s soul. “It was the person who stood to gain the most control if both my father and you were out of the picture.”

The heavy oak doors of the penthouse suddenly clicked open.

Stepping into the room wasn't a federal agent or a board member. It was Victor Vance—the cousin who had supposedly been sidelined, holding a heavy, silenced pistol aimed directly at Eleanor’s heart. A cold, maniacal grin twisted Victor’s face.

“Well, well, well,” Victor chuckled darkly, stepping further into the room and locking the door behind him. “Looks like the little smart-ass figured it out too late.”

Eleanor turned around, her voice breaking with absolute devastation. “Victor... you... you tried to kill my son? Your own cousin?!”

Victor laughed, a harsh, grating sound. “Cousin? He was going to inherit everything! I did the dirty work, Eleanor. And now, thanks to your little prodigy granddaughter here, all I have to do is pull the trigger, clean up the loose ends, and inherit the entire Vance empire myself.”

He shifted the barrel of the gun, locking his aim directly onto Lyra’s forehead.

“Any last words, CEO?” Victor sneered, his finger tightening on the trigger.

Lyra didn't flinch. She didn't scream. Instead, a slow, terrifyingly confident smile crept across her lips. She raised her left hand and tapped a tiny diamond stud earring twice.

Click.

From the ceiling speakers, a crystal-clear audio recording began to play loudly across the entire penthouse: “And now, thanks to your little prodigy granddaughter here, all I have to do is pull the trigger, clean up the loose ends, and inherit the entire Vance empire myself.”

Victor’s eyes widened in sheer horror. He whipped his head toward the smart-glass walls.

Outside, hovering silently in the night air, three tactical police drones equipped with high-definition audio and video arrays beamed his confession directly to every federal precinct and live news broadcast in the country.

Before Victor could even lift the gun to fire, the penthouse windows exploded inward.

Flashbang grenades detonated with blinding white light and deafening thunder, filling the room with smoke. Special operations agents swarmed the floor from every direction, slamming Victor face-first onto the marble floor before he could even draw another breath. His weapon clattered away across the polished stone.

As the smoke slowly cleared, the federal agents pulled Victor to his feet and dragged him toward the elevators. He screamed obscenities, thrashing wildly, his grand scheme reduced to absolute ash.

Lyra stood tall amid the chaos, adjusting the collar of her designer blazer. She walked over to where Lady Eleanor sat trembling on the sofa, gently taking the tear-stained letter from her hands.

“The Vance empire belongs to the Vances, Victor,” Lyra whispered to the empty air as the elevator doors slid shut. “To the real ones.”

She turned back to her grandmother, offering a warm, reassuring smile as the first rays of dawn broke over the glittering skyline of a new era.
