Chapter 10 - THE PROMISE OF CHRISTMAS EVEExactly one year later, a new Derek Harrington stood in the center of a local community center. He wasn't a CEO of a massive conglomerate anymore; he was the head of a non-profit foundation focused on family health.

The center was filled with light, joy, and, most importantly, family. Laya, Daisy, and Sarah were all there, decorating the tree. When Laya ran to him, she didn't stop a step away. She threw her arms around his waist.

"Daddy, you're still here," she whispered.

Derek looked at the room, then at Sarah, who stood by the fireplace. He realized the "wish" hadn't been about him being there physically—it was about him being present in his own life.

He looked at the little glass star Haley had held a year ago, now hanging on a new tree. He realized that money couldn't fix a broken home, but love—real, messy, human love—could rebuild it from the ashes.

The End.

(The story of Derek Harrington serves as a reminder: Your children don't remember the balance in your bank account; they remember the way you held their hand when the world went cold.)
