Chapter 1 - THE SHADOW NETWORKThe silence on the line stretched for two seconds before Leo "The Raven" Vance breathed out. Nineteen years ago, Leo had been my chief strategist—a master of digital surveillance before the world even understood what the cloud was. When I retired, I gave him fifty million dollars, a clean slate, and a promise: Never call unless the sky is falling.

"Boss," Leo’s voice trembled, a mix of old terror and raw devotion. "I thought you were dead. I thought you became a myth."
"I am a father, Leo," I said, staring through the glass panel at Lily. Her swollen eyelids twitched under the harsh fluorescent lights. "And three frat boys just shattered my daughter’s jaw in six places."
"Give me three hours."
I hung up and walked back into the room. I took the damp cloth from the stainless-steel tray, wrung it out, and gently wiped the dark, dried crust of blood from Lily’s hairline. She couldn't speak, but her brown eyes—so much like her mother’s—wobbled with unshed tears.
“They laughed, Dad,” she had managed to text me on the way to the hospital before the painkillers wiped her out. “They said you were just a broken old man who sells cheap vases. They said no one would ever believe me.”
My knuckles turned white against the metal edge of the bed rail.
At 2:15 AM, my phone buzzed. A encrypted file arrived via satellite link. I stepped into the stairwell, the cold concrete echoing with my footsteps.
"Ethan Cole, Brandon Hale, Tyler Whitmore," Leo said as I opened the dossier. "They call themselves 'The Trinity' on campus. They run an off-campus secret society called The Iron Key. It’s a funnel for blackmail, trust-fund money laundering, and violent hazing. They’ve done this before, Daniel. Three girls dropped out last year. Two signed non-disclosure agreements with five-figure settlements funded by Senator Hale’s PAC."
"And the university security?" I asked.
"Dean Vance was bought off ten years ago. Campus Police Chief Miller was paid fifty grand to wipe the camera feeds at 11:30 PM tonight. They didn't just break her jaw, Boss. They filmed it."
A cold, icy stillness settled over my chest. The kind of stillness that used to make ruthless cartel bosses sweat through their suits.
"Where are they right now?"
"Celebrating," Leo replied. "VIP lounge at Nocturne. The club owned by Julian Reed."
Julian Reed. A low-level nightclub owner who used to pay me protection money back in '05. He thought he was a kingpin now.
"Leo," I said, my tone dropping an octave. "Reopen the Vault. Fetch the keys to the warehouse in New Jersey."

"Boss... if we unleash the old network, the FBI's Cold Case division will register the ping. The Marshals will know."
"Let them watch," I whispered. "By the time they figure out who I am, the Trinity will wish they were in federal prison."
