Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Battlefield

Within twelve hours, the battle had shifted from the rainy roads of New York to the highest court of the land: public opinion and corporate governance.
Alexander had managed to outmaneuver Victoria’s blockade by utilizing a private security helicopter, whisking Clara away to his high-security penthouse in Manhattan. But Victoria wasn't playing a physical game anymore; she was playing a legal one.
By morning, every major news outlet carried the headline: “TYCOON KIDNAPS ORPHAN: Victoria Sterling Claims Alexander Reeves Is Holding Her Long-Lost Daughter Hostage.”
In the penthouse, Clara watched the television screen with wide, frightened eyes. On screen, a tearful Victoria was giving an interview to a prominent anchor.
“I was a young, terrified mother fleeing an abusive dynasty,” Victoria sobbed into a silk handkerchief. “Alexander Reeves drove my husband to suicide and stole my baby to keep the family fortune. Now, he’s locked her away in his penthouse. I just want my daughter back!”
“It's all lies,” Clara whispered, tears spilling down her cheeks. “She’s bad, Uncle Alexander. I remember… I remember her screaming at me when I was very little. In a dark room. She told me to be quiet or she’d leave me in the woods.”
Alexander knelt beside her, his face a mask of iron resolve. “I know, sweetheart. And I promise you, she will never touch you again. But to stop her, we have to fight her where she thinks she is strongest.”
An hour later, Alexander entered the boardroom of Reeves Enterprises. The long mahogany table was surrounded by thirty anxious board members, their faces pale as they looked at the plummeting stock charts on the wall screens.
“Alexander, this is a disaster,” the chairman, an elderly billionaire named Richard Vance, declared. “Our stock is down fifteen percent. The board is preparing to vote on your suspension. We cannot have a CEO accused of child abduction and family exploitation.”
“I did not abduct anyone,” Alexander said, slamming his leather portfolio onto the table. “The girl is Clara Reeves. She is my brother Julian’s biological daughter. I have the DNA results right here, certified by three independent labs.”
He tossed the documents onto the table. The board members scrambled to look at them.
“And Victoria?” Vance asked, his eyebrows furrowing. “She has a birth certificate. She has filed for immediate custody.”
“Victoria is a murderer,” Alexander said coldly. “She orchestrated the kidnapping that killed my brother. She abandoned Clara at Saint Jude’s to avoid arrest, and now she wants her back because Julian’s private trust—valued at three billion dollars—is set to activate on Clara’s seventh birthday next month. If Victoria gets custody, she controls the trust.”
Before Vance could respond, the boardroom doors swung open.
Victoria Sterling walked in, flanked by three high-profile lawyers and a flock of media reporters with cameras rolling.

“How touching, Alexander,” Victoria sneered, her eyes gleaming with malice. “But the law doesn't care about your conspiracy theories. I am her biological mother. The court has issued an emergency warrant for Clara's removal. And as of five minutes ago, I have purchased enough shares of Reeves Enterprises to demand a vote of no confidence against you. You’re finished.”
The reporters’ cameras flashed rapidly, capturing Alexander’s silent fury. He stood at the end of the table, seemingly cornered, as Victoria smiled triumphantly. But she had made one fatal mistake: she underestimated how far Alexander would go to protect his family.
