Chapter 6 - BloodlineGregor moved with terrifying, professional speed. In a fraction of a second, his hand cleared his jacket, drawing a suppressed tactical pistol aimed directly at Lily's chest.

He didn't hesitate. He was a corporate cleaner, and loose ends were meant to be erased.

Click.

The gun didn't fire.

Gregor blinked, pulling the trigger a second time. Click. Empty chamber.

From the shadows of the upper mezzanine, Marcus stepped into view, casually tossing a magazine of ammunition onto the marble floor where it clattered harmlessly. "Rule number one of corporate espionage, Gregor," Marcus said smoothly, resting his hand on his own sidearm. "Always check your side-arms before you enter a Sterling property. We inspect weapons at the lobby scanner."

Before Gregor could lunge or draw a backup blade, Ethan crossed the room with blinding speed. A lifetime of combat training—honed during his youth before he inherited the corporate throne—exploded into motion.

Ethan launched a devastating right hook that connected squarely with Gregor’s jaw. The massive guard staggered back, but before he could recover, Ethan followed up with a vicious knee strike to his midsection, folding the giant like a cheap tent. Gregor hit the marble floor hard, unconscious before he even bounced.

Richard Vance stumbled backward, tripping over his own expensive shoes, landing flat on his back with a pathetic gasp of air. He looked up to find Ethan standing over him, his shadow swallowing the older man entirely.

"You..." Richard stammered, scrambling backward on his elbows like a crab. "You can't touch me! I'm a board member! I'm family!"

"You tried to kill my son," Ethan said, his voice terrifyingly calm. "And then I find out you hunted my brother's child across three different states just to secure a corporate merger."

"She's a nobody!" Richard shrieked, pointing a trembling finger at Lily. "A street rat! A filthy stray you dragged out of the snow! Why are you destroying everything we built for a gutter brat?"

"Because she's not a stray," a new voice echoed from the hallway.

Everyone froze.

Julian stood at the entrance of the master hallway, leaning against the doorframe. He was pale, but his eyes were sharp, lucid, and blazing with righteous anger. He held a thick legal file in his right hand—a file he had pulled from his father's private safe.

"She's my cousin," Julian said, stepping forward with slow, deliberate steps, his legs supporting him better than the doctors had predicted. "And according to the original Sterling Trust charter of 1994, updated by Grandpa before he died... Thomas's direct bloodline supersedes all secondary corporate shares."

Julian tossed the heavy leather-bound folder directly onto Richard’s chest.

"You didn't just try to kill me in Central Park to get the estate, Richard," Julian continued, his voice echoing off the glass walls. "You tried to eliminate the entire bloodline so you could liquidate the company before the five-year audit caught your embezzlement scheme."

Richard stared at the folder, his face turning the color of curdled milk. Every offshore account, every forged signature, every wire transfer embezzling thirty million dollars from the Sterling Foundation was stamped inside that single dossier.

"How... how did you know?" Richard whispered, defeated.

"I didn't," Julian said, looking sideways at Lily with a small, grateful smile. "Not until Lily called my phone. Dad always told me the emergency contact button was sacred. Only family can use it."

Lily stood frozen in her oversized coat, the heavy brass paperweight still clutched in her hand. For her entire life, she had believed she was invisible, worthless, a mistake castaway by a cruel world.

Now, looking at Ethan and Julian, she realized something profound.

She wasn't a stray. She was a Sterling. And the wolves had finally picked a fight with the wrong pack.
