Chapter 9 - THE QUEEN’S REVENGEAs Richard was hauled away in handcuffs, sobbing and protesting incoherently, absolute silence returned to the boardroom.

Julian looked around the table at the remaining executives, whose faces were pale and compliant.

“Does anyone else have any concerns about where my money goes, or who I choose to love?” Julian asked quietly.

Not a single person breathed.

“Good meeting,” Julian said flatly. “We’re adjourned.”

An hour later, Julian walked out of Vance Tower and stepped into his waiting limousine. Sitting inside, wearing a small sparkling tiara and a bright red dress, was six-year-old Lily. In her lap, Mr. Bear wore a matching miniature tie.

“Did you win, Daddy?” Lily asked, tilting her head up at him as he sat beside her.

Julian’s stern, intimidating exterior melted away completely, replaced by a warm, protective smile. He wrapped his arm around her tiny shoulders, pulling her close.

“We always win, princess,” Julian murmured, kissing the top of her head. “Nobody touches our family.”
