Chapter 3 - The Broken VowNight fell over the estate like a heavy velvet shroud. The rain returned, pouring down in sheets, hammering against the mansion's glass windows.

Inside Alexander's dimly lit bedroom, Nina sat by his side once more. This time, she wasn't just a maid; she was a sentry. Alexander was resting, his breathing deep and even, though his strength was far from restored.

"Nina," he murmured without opening his eyes.

"Yes, Mr. Romano? I'm here."

"You said something last night," Alexander said, his voice deep and echoing in the quiet room. "When the fever was at its peak. I couldn't move, couldn't open my eyes... but I heard you."

Nina’s heart stopped. A icy chill ran down her spine. I love you, she had said. I have loved you for months.

"Sir, I... I was distressed. I wasn't thinking—"

"Look at me," he commanded.

Nina turned to face him. Alexander sat up slowly, his dark eyes locked onto hers with an intensity that made her flush red. He reached out, his large, calloused hand cupping the side of her face. His thumb gently traced her cheekbone.

"You risked your life entering a war you knew nothing about," Alexander said softly. "Why?"

"Because you treated Sophia like a human being," Nina whispered, tears prickling her eyes. "Because in a world full of monsters, you still have a soul. And because... I couldn't watch you die."

Alexander was silent for a long moment. Then, slowly, he pulled her closer, his lips brushing against her forehead in a promise that sent shivers straight to her core. "If I survive this night, Nina, you will never scrub another floor in your life. You belong to me now. My shadow, my shield."

Before Nina could answer, the heavy double doors of the master bedroom crashed open.

Standing in the doorway was Dr. Castellano—holding a silenced pistol. Behind him stood three heavy-set men clad in black tactical gear, armed to the teeth.

"How touching," Castellano sneered, stepping into the room as rain lashed against the balcony windows behind him. "The crime lord and the little maid. A tragic romance cut short."
