Chapter 1 - THE ACCIDENTAL OATH

The sound of Clara’s heavy metal brace hitting the marble floor echoed like a gunshot in the silent ballroom.
For three years, the Hale family had poured millions into top-tier neurologists, experimental stem-cell therapies, and world-renowned surgeons across Europe. Nothing had worked. Yet here was a barefoot seven-year-old child from the alleyways, resting two dirt-stained hands on the children's knees, accomplishing what modern medicine deemed impossible.
Clara took a step. Unassisted. Then another.
"Daddy... look," Noah sobbed, his voice cracking as he lifted his legs without pain for the first time since the night of the crash. "It doesn't hurt. It doesn't hurt anymore!"
Gasps rippled through the sea of billionaires, politicians, and media moguls. Phones flashed as guests captured the scene. Marcus Hale stood paralyzed, his champagne glass slipping from his fingers and shattering against the floor. His mind raced—not with gratitude, but with absolute terror.
He had made a joke. A bitter, arrogant joke meant to mock the absurd charity gala atmosphere: "Heal my children and I'll adopt you."
Now, hundreds of elite witnesses held video recordings of a billionaire making a public, binding pledge to a street urchin.
"Marcus," a cold, sharp voice whispered beside his ear.
It was Vanessa Hale—his older sister and the Chief Legal Officer of Hale Global Enterprises. Her eyes were fixed on Leo, burning with pure malice.
"You get that rat out of this building right now," she hissed, her manicured fingers digging into Marcus’s arm. "If the press catches wind that a beggar healed the Hale heirs through magic or whatever trickery this is, our stock drops 20% by morning. Worse, if you actually honor that ridiculous promise, he gets a legal claim to the family trust."
"Look at them, Vanessa!" Serene, Marcus’s wife, pushed past her sister-in-law, tears streaming down her face as she threw her arms around Noah and Clara. "They are walking! He saved them!"
Leo stood up quietly. His clothes were ragged, his feet blackened by city soot, but his dark eyes were unnaturally calm—like a calm sea before a hurricane. He looked at Marcus, his voice quiet yet carrying across the breathless room.
"A promise made before the sky cannot be unmade, sir."
Before Marcus could answer, Vanessa signaled the private security team. Four armed guards stepped forward, blocking the guests' view and surrounding the boy.
"The gala is over!" Vanessa announced smoothly to the crowd, her fake smile razor-sharp. "A marvelous illusion arranged for tonight's entertainment! Please enjoy the catering downstairs."
As the crowd was ushered away, Vanessa turned to the chief security officer. "Take this child out back. Throw him in the river if you have to. Make sure he disappears."
"No!" Serene screamed, but Marcus held her back, his heart torn between the miracle he had just witnessed and the ruthless instincts that had kept his empire alive.
Leo didn't run. He didn't cry. He simply looked at Marcus one last time and said, "The debt is written, Mr. Hale. If you break it, the sky will collect it twice over."
Suddenly, the grand chandelier above them groaned. A sudden power surge blew out the main circuit breaker, plunging the entire Hale mansion into pitch darkness.

When the emergency backup lights flickered back on five seconds later, the security guards were unconscious on the floor.
And Leo was gone.
