Chapter 5 - THE POISONED BLOODLINE

The morning of the DNA test arrived under a gray, pouring rain.

The medical laboratory on the top floor of Hale Tower was transformed into an interrogation room. Five independent geneticists, accompanied by the entire board of directors and legal representatives, stood behind a reinforced glass wall.

Vanessa stood beside Director Vance, a faint, triumphant smile playing on her lips.

Leo sat in the center of the room on a stainless-steel chair. A nurse approached with a sterile needle and a vial.

"This will only take a moment, child," the nurse said gently.

She inserted the needle into Leo's arm. As the dark red blood flowed into the clear vacuum tube, something horrifying began to happen.

The glass tube began to heat up rapidly.

"What is that?" one of the board members muttered, leaning closer to the observation glass.

The blood inside the vial wasn't separating. It began to boil, turning from deep red to an unnatural, shimmering gold, before violently dissolving the plastic plunger of the syringe!

SZZZZZ!

The nurse shrieked, dropping the syringe as toxic steam rose from the floor where the blood dripped. The linoleum melted on contact!

"Isolation protocol!" the head doctor screamed, hitting the emergency alarm. Heavy steel shutters slammed down over the glass windows, cutting off the view.

Inside the observation booth, panic erupted.

"He's a monster!" Director Vance shouted. "He isn't human! Marcus brought an anomaly into this company!"

Vanessa immediately stepped up to the microphone, her voice cold and commanding. "By power vested in me as Chief Legal Officer, I declare Marcus Hale mentally unfit to govern due to endangerment of corporate security. I move for an immediate vote to strip him of all executive powers!"

"Seconded!" Vance yelled.

"Wait!" Marcus yelled, grabbing the podium. "Look at the monitors!"

The digital screens connected to the lab’s DNA sequencer were flashing frantically. The machine was processing the molecular structure of the dissolved sample.

Instead of human DNA markers, the screen displayed an ancient genetic sequence matched with an archived database from forty years ago—a file classified under the highest level of military secrecy.

SUBJECT CODE: PROJECT ORIGIN. MOTHER IDENTITY: ELENA VANCE.

Marcus felt the room spin. Elena Vance. Julian Vance’s sister... and Marcus’s first love who had mysteriously disappeared twenty years ago.

Marcus turned around slowly, his eyes wide as he stared at Vanessa.

"Elena didn't abandon the company fifteen years ago..." Marcus whispered, realization hitting him like a physical blow. "You killed her."

Vanessa’s fake composure shattered for a fraction of a second, replaced by a look of sheer venom.

"She was going to destroy our family's claim to the energy patents!" Vanessa spat, dropping her civilized act entirely. "She was weak! Just like you! Security, seize Marcus!"

Before the guards could move, the heavy reinforced steel shutters of the lab room blew outward with a deafening explosion!
