Chapter 1 - The LockdownThe sound of the heavy, reinforced brass doors clicking shut echoed like a gunshot. Three hundred of New York’s elite gasped as the security team—men built like granite—moved with military precision to block every exit.

"Alessandro, darling, what are you doing?" Vanessa’s voice was a shaky vibrato, the polish of her performance finally cracking. She clutched the neck of her silk dress as if she could protect the lie underneath.
Alessandro didn’t look at her. He walked toward the center of the ballroom, his silhouette commanding the massive space. He stopped in front of me. I felt like a deer in the headlights, my heart hammering against my ribs. Emma, sensing the shift in the air, started to cry.

"Yes," she sobbed. "The flowers. The box. The pretty lady put it in there."
Vanessa’s face went white. She lunged forward, her diamonds sparkling like shards of ice. "She’s lying! She’s trying to sabotage this family! Alessandro, call security and have her thrown out. This is degrading!"
Alessandro turned, his gaze slow, deliberate. "You’re right, Vanessa. It is degrading." He gestured to his head of security. "Search her suite. If there is a box with flowers in that closet, I want it brought here. If there isn't... I’ll have the housekeeper dealt with personally."

The room held its breath. I felt my knees weaken. I knew what I saw. But I also knew how much power Vanessa’s family held. They weren't just business owners; they were the people who decided which bodies were found in the harbor.
"And Vanessa?" Alessandro added, stepping into her personal space. "If that box is there, you’re not just leaving this house. You’re leaving this city. In a crate, if necessary."
