Chapter 6 - The AnswerI didn't cower. I didn't cry.

I rose slowly from my seat in the third row.
I smoothed down the lapel of my navy jacket, walked steadily down the center aisle, and stopped at the base of the elevated dais, looking up at my husband.
Marcus glared down at me, his eyes flashing with triumph, believing he had successfully silenced me before I could expose him.
“Do you have anything to say for yourself before you leave, Naomi?” Marcus asked, his tone dripping with condescending pity. “The church is listening.”
I took a deep breath, looked out across the stunned congregation, and then looked back up at Marcus.
“No, Marcus,” I answered clearly, my voice carrying effortlessly across the sound system. “I’m not stepping away from ministry. I’m stepping away from your lies.”

“Sit down, Marcus,” a deep, authoritative voice boomed from the back of the church.
