Chapter 7 - THE EDGE OF THE PRECIPICE

"Drop the weapon, Adrian!" Vance shouted over the howling wind, his eyes wild with desperate triumph. "It's over! The board is mine, the company is mine, and your little miracle worker is coming with us to Apex Labs for a full neurological extraction!"
Adrian stood in front of me, shielding my body with his own, his gun leveled directly at Vance’s chest. He didn't flinch. He didn't tremble.
"Richard," Adrian said, his voice cutting through the gale like a razor. "You always were a remarkably short-sighted accountant."
"Shoot him!" Vance screamed to the mercenary.
The mercenary raised his rifle.
I didn't think. Fear evaporated, replaced by a surge of pure, blinding adrenaline. I lunged forward past Adrian’s shoulder and grabbed the mercenary’s bare wrist where his glove had slipped off.
The effect was instantaneous and catastrophic.
A massive, blinding flash of blue-white electrical energy erupted from our point of contact. The mercenary shrieked as a violent shockwave surged through his entire nervous system, dropping his weapon instantly as his eyes rolled back and he collapsed unconscious onto the concrete helipad.
Vance stumbled back, horror washing over his face. "What the hell was that?!"
Adrian didn't hesitate. He raised his Glock and fired a single, perfect shot that shattered the control panel of the helicopter, rendering it completely unflyable.
"Game over, Richard," Adrian whispered.
Sirens wailed in the distance—dozens of them, closing in around Meridian Tower from every direction. Federal marshals, SWAT units, and city police had finally bypassed the scrambled comms.
Vance backed up toward the edge of the helipad, tripping over a tie-down cable. He caught himself on the low glass railing, staring down sixty-seven stories into the abyss.
"You're ruined, Park!" Vance screamed hysterically. "Apex will never stop hunting you two! You'll never be safe!"
"I was never safe when I couldn't feel anything," Adrian replied coldly, stepping forward. "Now? I have something to fight for."
Before Vance could lunge, the rooftop door flew open, and a swarm of federal agents flooded the helipad, weapons drawn.
"Federal agents! Drop your weapons!"

Vance was cuffed within seconds, sobbing incoherently as he was dragged away toward the service elevator.
The wind whipped around us, carrying the scent of rain. The chaos slowly subsided into the steady hum of sirens echoing from the streets far below.
