Chapter 10 - ASHES AND NEW BEGINNINGSThe sun began to crest over the horizon of the Hale estate, painting the sky in brilliant hues of gold and crimson. The fire in the sub-basement had been contained before it could destroy the main structure of the mansion, thanks to the rapid response of the county fire department.

In the courtyard, police officers clicked heavy steel handcuffs around the wrists of both Serena and Arthur Vance, leading them toward separate patrol cars as flashbulbs from investigative reporters popped furiously in the morning light. Serena wept hysterically, hiding her face beneath her designer coat, while Arthur stared ahead with a cold, defeated silence.
Victor stood on the grand marble steps of the mansion, the morning breeze rustling his dark hair. Beside him stood Lily, holding little Ethan, who was now babbling happily and chasing a stray butterfly across the manicured lawn.
Victor turned to Lily, his expression softening into a gentle, genuine warmth that no one in the business world had seen in years.
"You saved my son's life, Lily. And you saved my family," Victor said softly, reaching out to gently touch her hand. "I don't know how I can ever truly thank you."
"You don't have to thank me, Mr. Hale," Lily smiled, her eyes sparkling in the morning sun. "Just... let's keep the doors unlocked from now on."

Victor chuckled, a deep, resonant sound of genuine relief. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the heavy gold key with the Hale crest—the key that had opened the darkest secrets of the past. Without a word, he walked over to the ornamental stone fountain in the center of the courtyard and tossed the key deep into the sparkling water, watching it sink forever out of sight.
The past was buried. The shadows were gone. And as the gates of the Hale mansion opened to a bright new dawn, a new chapter of their lives was finally beginning.
