Chapter 5 - The Collapse of an EmpireFor three full seconds, nobody moved.

Then, total chaos erupted.
On stage, Ethan froze mid-sentence, his mouth hanging open like a fish out of water. He whipped around, staring up at the twenty-foot-tall image of himself kissing his mistress, his face turning an alarming shade of purple.
"Turn it off!" Ethan roared into the live microphone, his voice cracking violently. "Turn that screen off right now! Technical malfunction—it's a hack! Cut the power!"
But Leo had locked the console down from the booth. The screens remained brightly lit, broadcasting the undeniable, photographic proof of a double life to every doctor, donor, investor, and journalist in the room.
Flashes began going off instantly.
Local reporters sitting near Table 2 had their smartphones out, recording every second, their cameras rapidly snapping pictures of the screen, of Ethan paralyzed on stage, and of Sophia sitting rigidly at Table 4.
Sophia stood up so fast her chair screeched loudly against the marble floor. Her face was stark white, her carefully curated elegance instantly stripped away by raw panic. Without saying a word, she grabbed her designer clutch, turned on her heel, and bolted toward the side exit, weaving desperately through the stunned crowd.
I didn't chase her. I didn't need to.
I calmly walked forward, stepping out of the shadows and directly into the pool of bright warm light cast by the stage spotlights. I reached into my jacket pocket, pulled out a small wireless microphone clipped to my lapel, and tapped it twice.
The gentle tap echoed softly through the entire sound system, drawing every pair of shocked eyes in the ballroom directly to me.
I looked up at my husband, who was shaking uncontrollably on the stage above me.
"Good evening, everyone," I said, my voice cool, melodic, and completely unshakable. "Please forgive the interruption to Dr. Carter's presentation. It appears my husband forgot to include a few key exhibits in his official slide deck."
Ethan gripped the edges of the podium so hard his knuckles turned ghostly white. "Madison... stop it. Stop this right now—"
"Quiet, Ethan," I said, my voice dropping any trace of warmth, turning into pure, lethal ice. "For fifteen years, I managed your public image, your home, and your career. I built events that made you look like a visionary. But it turns out, your greatest talent was fiction."
Whispers erupted like a tidal wave across the ballroom. Foundation board members were standing up from their seats, murmuring frantically among themselves. The chairman of the board was pressing his phone to his ear, undoubtedly calling PR control.
"You wanted a defining night for your career, Ethan?" I continued, stepping closer to the stage steps, looking up at him with unblinking eyes. "Well, congratulations. You got one. You are officially defining the exact moment your professional reputation, your medical license review, and your marriage all implode simultaneously."

Ethan let go of the podium, stumbling backward like a man who had just been struck by physical force. "You... you planned this. You planned all of this."
"I merely designed the floor plan, darling," I replied smoothly, offering him a devastating, radiant smile. "You provided all the material."
