Chapter 10 - Dawn Over the Vale EmpireThe first rays of golden sunlight crested over Lake Michigan, painting the Chicago skyline in hues of copper, amber, and blood-red.

The Vale estate was quiet once more.
Inside the nursery, the air smelled faintly of lavender and fresh linen. Little Noah was fast asleep in his crib, his breathing deep, steady, and completely unhindered by poison or fear.
Dominic stood by the window, a cup of black coffee cooling in his hand.
The door opened softly, and Evelyn walked in. She had changed out of her blood-stained silk dress into a simple, dark cashmere sweater. Her hair was tied back, and the cold, distant aura that had defined her for the past two months was completely gone, replaced by something quiet, resilient, and unbreakable.
Dominic turned to look at her.
For a long time, neither of them spoke. The silence wasn't strained anymore; it was the heavy, earned quiet of two survivors who had walked through fire and come out on the other side.
"The police received an anonymous digital package this morning," Dominic said quietly. "Full financial confessions from your uncle, audio recordings of Mara’s handlers, and the unredacted hospital board files from Chicago."
Evelyn stopped a few feet away from him, looking down at the sleeping baby. "And?"
"Your medical license was reinstated at 4:00 AM by federal decree," Dominic continued, a rare, genuine smile touching the corners of his lips. "It turns out the state attorney general likes having competent surgeons around, especially ones who can spot a poisoning ring in thirty seconds."
Evelyn looked up, her grey eyes meeting his. A slow, soft smile finally curved her lips—the first true smile Dominic had ever seen on her face.
"Does this mean I'm no longer just your political arrangement, Mr. Vale?" she teased lightly.
Dominic set his coffee cup down on the windowsill, closed the distance between them, and gently cupped her cheek with his hand.
"Arrangement?" Dominic murmured, his voice husky and warm. "Evelyn... you just saved my nephew, dismantled a multi-state conspiracy, threw a scalpel better than most of my hitmen, and proved you’re the most dangerous woman in Chicago." He leaned down, pressing his forehead gently against hers. "Marrying you was supposed to be a strategic compromise. Now... I realize it's the only smart move I ever made."
Evelyn’s hands rested naturally against his chest, her fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt.

"Good," she whispered, her eyes shining with quiet triumph. "Because in this house, Dominic... I don't plan on losing."
Outside, the gates of the Vale estate swung wide open as the morning traffic rolled by—stable, secure, and fiercely protected. And inside the nursery, little Noah let out a peaceful sigh, wrapped safely in the dawn of a brand-new empire.
