Chapter 7 - The Syndicate's LedgerThe revelation hung in the sterile air of the medical wing like a loaded gun.

Nathan stared at the silver locket, his massive frame seeming to shrink under the weight of a truth he had spent four years burying in grief and rage. The car crash that had supposedly killed his wife wasn't a tragic twist of fate orchestrated by a rival mafia family. It was an assassination—ordered by the very medical syndicate operating inside his own social circle.
"Reeves," Nathan murmured, his voice barely audible above the hum of the monitors. "He wasn't just a corrupt doctor. He was the East Coast acquisition arm for a corporate cabal."
"Not just a cabal," I said, pulling a folded flash drive out from the lining of my collar and tossing it onto the desk beside the medical records. "That drive contains every encrypted financial ledger, offshore bank transfer, and victim profile from Reeves' terminal. Your wife discovered they weren't just targeting your family. They’ve systematically poisoned heirs across New York, Boston, and Philadelphia for the past decade, forcing wealthy estates into forced liquidation and asset seizure."
Nathan picked up the flash drive, his thumb running over the black plastic casing. For a man who controlled half the underground economy of New England, this wasn't about turf wars or drug routes. This was personal. This was war.
"What do you want to do?" Nathan asked, looking up at me with a look of absolute, unshakeable alignment.
"We don't call the police," I said calmly. "At least, not yet. Federal agencies are compromised—Reeves wasn't lying about having federal protection. Some high-ranking officials in the Department of Justice are sleeping partners in this syndicate."
"Then we take the fight to their front door," Nathan said, a dangerous, predatory smile finally cutting across his face. "Tomorrow night, the annual Connecticut Governor’s Charity Gala is being held at the Hartford Grand Hotel. Every major stakeholder in this medical syndicate—including the federal prosecutors protecting Reeves—will be in attendance."

"And the nanny?" I asked with a thin smile.
"The nanny," Nathan said, his eyes flashing with lethal intent, "is going as my guest of honor."
