Chapter 5 - The Trap Springs ShutPanic erupted among the high-society guests. People scrambled toward the exits like rats fleeing a sinking ship. Flashlights blinked, reporters shouted questions over one another, and the once-glorious wedding venue turned into a chaotic crime scene.

Preston tried to crawl away toward the back doors, but two federal agents pinned him to the floor, snapping the handcuffs onto his wrists with a sharp, metallic click.

"You can't do this to me! Do you know who my lawyers are?!" Preston screamed, his face pressed against the spilled wedding cake frosting.

"Your lawyers just quit," Inspector Marcus replied coldly, holding up his tablet. "Pendelton & Associates terminated your corporate representation three minutes ago. Every bank account associated with you has been frozen under federal anti-corruption laws."

Margaret collapsed onto a velvet chair, clutching her chest as her diamond necklace slipped from her neck. Her grand social standing, built on decades of deceit, arrogance, and stepping on the less fortunate, evaporated in less than an hour.

I walked over to Preston, kneeling down so that I was eye-level with him.

"You called my daughter a filthy thief," I whispered softly, just for him to hear. "Remember those words when you're sitting in a federal penitentiary wondering how you lost everything because of a single piece of wood."

Preston’s eyes widened in sheer terror as he finally recognized the glint in my eyes. "You... you planned this. You set this trap!"

"No, Preston," I smiled faintly, standing up and adjusting Sophie's jacket. "You built the trap yourself. I just helped you step into it."
