Sophie, wearing a bright yellow dress and her favorite sneakers, ran across the freshly polished floor, laughing as she chased a cluster of silver balloons. The small scar near her temple had almost completely faded, leaving behind only the memory of her resilience.
I stood by the grand French doors, holding a glass of sparkling water, watching my daughter with a deep, peaceful warmth in my heart.
"She looks happy," Jonathan Sterling said, walking up beside me with a gentle smile. "And the stock market response to our merger has exceeded every projection. Thornton Global is officially a relic of the past."
"Good," I replied, clinking my glass gently against his. "Some things deserve to stay buried."
