Chapter 10 - The Unlikely HeirsThe smoke slowly cleared, drifting out through the broken glass into the cold Manhattan night.

The high-society guests had long since fled down the service stairwells or cowered in locked pantries. In the center of the devastated penthouse, Enzo Dante stood over the unconscious form of Viktor, his black tuxedo dusted with plaster and drywall. He slowly straightened his cuffs, took a deep breath, and turned his gaze toward the pillar where Emily stood trembling.

Cerberus trotted heavily over to Emily, whining softly as he pressed his massive head against her stomach, checking her over for injuries with frantic, desperate licks. She dropped to her knees, wrapping her arms around the dog's thick neck, burying her face in his fur and sobbing the tears she had held back for seven long years.

Footsteps echoed softly behind her. Enzo walked over, stepping past the shattered glass and overturned furniture, and knelt down beside them.

He reached out, his hand resting tentatively on the dog's head for the first time. Cerberus didn't groww; instead, the animal leaned slightly into Enzo's touch, acknowledging the man who had fed him, trained him, and ultimately shared this battlefield with him.

Enzo looked up, his dark, calculating eyes meeting Emily's tear-stained face.

"Well, Miss Marcus," Enzo said softly, a faint, genuine smile finally breaking through his hard exterior—a smile that completely transformed his face, making him look not like a terrifying syndicate lord, but a man who had finally found something worth keeping. "It appears your catering shift is officially over."

Emily wiped her eyes, looking down at the dog, then back up at the billionaire who held the keys to the city. "And my dog?"

Enzo stood up, offering her a strong, calloused hand to help her to her feet.

"Your dog stays," Enzo said smoothly, pulling her up so she stood close—very close—against him amidst the ruins of his empire. "And so do you. Effective immediately, you're looking at a promotion. Head of Security Logistics... starting tomorrow morning."

Emily stared at him, the absurdity of it washing over her, until a small, disbelieving laugh slipped past her lips. She looked down at Siri—the stolen puppy who had brought down an empire—and realized that sometimes, the things you lose in the dark find their way back to you through the most dangerous doors in the world.
