Chapter 7 - Rebuilding ParadiseTwo weeks after the dramatic takedown at the Sterling estate, the atmosphere inside the luxury mansion had completely transformed. Gone was the suffocating tension, the whispered gossip, and the paranoid suspicion that had poisoned every hallway. In its place was a warm, vibrant energy filled with genuine laughter, fresh flowers, and absolute peace.

The domestic staff had been completely overhauled. Under the supervision of a new, highly professional estate manager named Mrs. Higgins, every butler, chef, and security operative was vetted through rigorous background checks, ensuring that loyalty and integrity were the absolute foundation of the household.
In the master drawing room, Maya stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass doors, watching the sunlight shimmer across the crystal-clear surface of the outdoor swimming pool where Victoria had taken her infamous plunge. The painful memory of that night still lingered faintly in the back of her mind, but the physical bruises on her wrist had completely healed, replaced by a delicate, custom-designed gold bracelet that Nathan had personally slipped onto her arm three days ago—a true heirloom, crafted by master artisans with her grandmother's original stones safely reset into the gleaming links.
"Penny for your thoughts," a familiar, deep voice murmured behind her.
Maya felt two strong, comforting arms wrap around her waist, pulling her back against Nathan's chest. She leaned back with a contented sigh, resting her head against his shoulder.
"I was just thinking about how fragile everything is," Maya whispered, turning slightly in his embrace to look up into his warm gray eyes. "Two weeks ago, my entire world was falling apart. I felt so helpless, trapped on those white tiles, believing I had lost everything."
Nathan gently kissed the top of her head, his arms tightening protectively around her. "You were never helpless, Maya. You survived months of psychological torture that would have broken ten other people. You are the strongest person I have ever known."
"Only because you were there to catch me," she smiled softly, her fingers tracing the lapel of his tailored blazer. "What happened to Victoria’s legal team and the co-conspirators?"
"Federal prosecutors threw the book at them," Nathan answered flatly, a hint of steel returning to his tone. "Arthur Vance is facing up to fifteen years for corporate fraud and insider trading. As for Victoria... her family's assets were completely frozen to pay off the restitution fines stemming from her extortion schemes. She’s currently awaiting trial in federal custody with zero bail."
Maya nodded slowly, feeling a profound sense of closure settle over her spirit. The nightmare was truly over. The darkness had been purged, leaving behind a future brighter than she had ever dared to imagine.
"So," Nathan whispered, a sudden, playful spark dancing in his eyes as he pulled a small, velvet-covered box from his pocket. "Now that the dust has settled, and the empire is secure... I think there's one final loose end we need to tie up."
Maya’s breath caught in her throat as Nathan dropped gracefully to one knee on the pristine hardwood floor of the drawing room.
"Nathan..." she gasped, her hands flying to her mouth as tears of pure joy welled in her eyes.
May you like
"Maya," Nathan said, his voice thick with emotion as he snapped open the velvet box to reveal a breathtaking, flawless diamond ring that caught the morning light like a captured star. "You brought light into a house that had been cold and dark for far too long. You are my anchor, my strength, and my true home. Will you do me the absolute honor of spending the rest of your life by my side as my wife?"
Maya didn't hesitate for a single second. "Yes," she whispered, her voice breaking with emotion as she threw her arms around his neck. "Yes, a million times yes."
