Inside a sunlit penthouse overlooking the Manhattan skyline, Richard Sterling sat alone in the dark, staring blankly at a muted television screen flashing breaking news banners with his face splashed across them.

The phone on the coffee table buzzed. It was his lead attorney, delivering the final, crushing blow.

Richard didn't blink. His voice was hollow, a ghost of the arrogant billionaire he had been just a week ago. "And?"
