Chapter 8 - The Trojan HorseJulian’s eyes narrowed. "What cargo? Everything Harrison Global owns is on those servers!"

"Everything legal is on those servers," William corrected smoothly.

Before Julian could react, the smart-console in the panic room let out a loud, harmonious chime. Not a warning beep—a success chime.

BEEP-BEEP-BING.

The main monitor flickered, shifting from the Zurich server farm feed to a live broadcast from the New York Stock Exchange floor.

On the screen, the stock ticker for Apex Global was flashing a violent, blood-red downward spiral. Millions of shares were being dumped simultaneously in a coordinated, multi-billion-dollar sell-off.

Julian stared at his tactical laptop in horror as his own screen began flashing wild system errors. "What is this? What did you do?"

"You thought Sterling was using you to take over my company," William said, his voice ringing with absolute authority. "Did you ever stop to wonder why Sterling’s personal holding company was heavily leveraged against Apex Global’s own stock?"

Julian’s face drained completely of color. "No... that's impossible. Sterling owns Apex!"

"Sterling was a majority shareholder," William corrected, stepping closer to the glass. "Three weeks ago, when your brilliant MIT assistant Sarah Jenkins applied for her job here, I ran a background check. I found her ties to Apex. I knew about your little conspiracy from day one, Julian."

Marcus stared at William in stunned silence. "Boss... you knew? You knew he was leaking information?"

"I didn't just know," William said, his eyes gleaming like polished steel. "I fed him bad data. I let him steal my shadow ledgers—encrypted files containing fabricated, hyper-inflated debt structures for Harrison Global's worst subsidiary assets."

Julian stumbled backward, clutching his head. "You... you poisoned your own data? You let us steal a trillion dollars of garbage?"

"I didn't just let you steal it," William said, his smile cold and merciless. "I arranged for Jonathan Sterling to use those exact assets as collateral to secure a massive, multi-billion-dollar emergency loan from international banks to fund this hostile takeover."

William pointed directly at the plunging stock ticker on the monitor.

"And now, the moment those fraudulent debt structures hit the public clearinghouse five minutes ago, the SEC flagged Apex Global for massive financial fraud. Sterling's banks are calling in his loans right now. Apex Global is bankrupt. Jonathan Sterling is ruined, and his company is worth less than the paper it's printed on."

Julian shook his head frantically, tapping his laptop keys with shaking fingers. "No! No, no, no! That's not possible! I had the access codes!"

"You had the access I gave you," William said quietly. "Checkmate, Julian."
