CHAPTER 6 — The Woman Who Saved the Mafia King

Above ground...
The battle had ended.
Bodies covered the estate.
Police sirens echoed in the distance.
Adrian walked back into the mansion with blood running down one side of his face.
His white shirt was stained crimson.
The moment Vivien saw him...
Something inside her broke.
Without thinking, she ran to him.
"You're hurt!"
He smiled weakly.
"It's not mine."
She looked into his storm-gray eyes.
For the first time since the wedding...
She saw not a mafia boss...
...but a man carrying years of loneliness.
Before either of them could speak...
One of the doctors rushed into the room.
"Miss Carter!"
She turned.
"What happened?"
"The babies."
Her face went white.
"What about them?"
"The stress caused complications."
Vivien grabbed the examination table for support.
"No..."
The doctor quickly smiled.
"It's good news."
Everyone stared.
He turned the monitor toward Adrian.
"The babies survived."
"But something remarkable happened."
The heartbeat monitor displayed three perfectly synchronized heartbeats.
The doctor shook his head in amazement.
"I've practiced medicine for thirty-seven years."
"I've never seen anything like this."
"They're stabilizing each other."
Adrian slowly walked beside Vivien.
Together...
They listened to the tiny rhythm filling the room.
Three hearts.
Strong.
Steady.
Alive.
Vivien felt tears sliding down her face.
Adrian gently reached for her hand.
This time...
She didn't pull away.
But before hope could replace fear...
The bunker lights suddenly flickered.
Every security monitor turned black.
Vincent's radio crackled.
His face lost all color.
"What is it?" Adrian demanded.
Vincent looked toward his boss.
His voice was barely audible.
"We have another problem."
"The attack on the mansion..."
"...was only a distraction."
Adrian frowned.
"For what?"
Vincent slowly held up a tablet.
On the screen was a live security recording from a downtown hospital.
Someone wearing a surgeon's mask had quietly opened a refrigerated medical container.
Inside...
Was a tiny blood sample labeled:
VIVIEN CARTER
The masked figure smiled directly into the camera...
...before walking away with it.
Adrian's expression turned ice cold.
"They're not trying to kill the babies anymore."
"They're trying to steal them...
May you like
before they're even born."
To Be Continued...
