CHAPTER 3 — The Boss Who Ordered His Own Son's Execution

Salvatore Moretti smiled.

Not warmly.

Not proudly.

Patiently.

Like a chess player who had just cornered the last piece.

"I wondered how long it would take."

Vincent stepped into the open.

"Stay behind me," he told Elena.

She ignored him.

Something inside her refused to hide anymore.

Salvatore looked directly at Elena.

"So..."

"You look exactly like your father."

The words struck harder than any bullet.

"You knew him?" Elena asked.

"I knew everyone."

Salvatore folded his hands behind his back.

"Especially the ones who betrayed me."

"My father wasn't a criminal."

"No."

"He was worse."

"He was honest."

Vincent stared at his father.

"You killed Daniel Torres."

Salvatore didn't deny it.

"He was stealing from you?"

"No."

"He was trying to save you."

Silence.

Then Salvatore revealed the truth that shattered everything.

Twenty years earlier...

Daniel Torres had uncovered proof that someone inside the Moretti empire planned to sell the names of undercover federal agents, innocent witnesses, and dozens of children hidden in protective custody.

Daniel refused.

He threatened to expose everyone.

Salvatore ordered his execution.

But one loyal soldier secretly saved Daniel's infant daughter before the killers arrived.

That child...

Was Elena.

Vincent felt the world tilt.

"You murdered your own friend."

"He chose morality over loyalty."

Salvatore shrugged.

"In my world..."

"That's the same thing."

He slowly lifted a small remote.

"You think tonight is about revenge."

"It isn't."

"It is succession."

Vincent frowned.

"What?"

"I've grown old."

"My captains are greedy."

"My sons are weak."

"So I arranged this little test."

"You've all disappointed me."

A series of explosions suddenly echoed across the harbor.

Warehouses belonging to the Moretti organization burst into flames one after another.

Vincent stared in disbelief.

"My empire..."

Salvatore smiled.

"I destroyed it myself."

"If I can't control it..."

"No one will."

Then came the final betrayal.

An assassin raised his rifle.

Not toward Vincent.

Toward Salvatore.

One shot.

The old man collapsed.

His own men had chosen money over blood.

Exactly as he predicted.

With his last breath...

Salvatore pressed a bloodstained envelope into Elena's hands.

"For the daughter..."

"I should have protected..."

He died before finishing the sentence.

Inside the envelope were birth records...

Bank accounts worth hundreds of millions...

And a handwritten confession proving Daniel Torres had died trying to save hundreds of innocent lives.

The evidence would destroy every surviving member of the organization.

Vincent looked at Elena.

"You can hand that to the FBI."

She met his eyes.

"And you?"

He looked at the burning skyline.

"My family built this world."

"My family ends with me."

As police sirens closed in from every direction, Vincent stepped forward with empty hands raised.

For the first time in decades...

The man everyone feared chose surrender over another war.

Elena watched the flames consume the empire that had stolen her father.
