Chapter 4 - THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL EXPOSED

Betsy pushed past her paralyzed son, storming toward the edge of the altar with her face twisted in pure venom.
“You lying, manipulative witch!” Betsy shrieked, pointing a long, manicured fingernail at my face. “You trapped him! You think you can destroy my son just because he found a real woman who could give him a proper heir? Look at her! Look at Alyssa! She is carrying the true bloodline of the Sterling family! A healthy, strong baby boy who will carry our name long after you and your worthless daughter are forgotten!”
The ballroom fell dead silent once more, save for the faint, rhythmic sound of Brinley cooing softly in her sleep.
I looked past Betsy, fixing my gaze entirely on Alyssa, who was trembling so violently her silk gown was visibly shaking.
“A baby boy,” I repeated, my voice dripping with cold amusement. “That’s what you told him, isn't it, Alyssa? Twelve weeks pregnant with Connor’s son. A miraculous blessing that proved your undying devotion.”
Alyssa swallowed hard, licking her dry lips. “It’s... it’s true. Connor and I... we love each other. We’re having a family.”
“Are you?” I asked softly.
I pulled the second document from the envelope—a crisp, official medical record bearing the letterhead of the city’s most prestigious reproductive health clinic, complete with a notarized physician’s signature and an embossed seal.
“Because according to the official medical files of Dr. Harrison at the Metro Fertility Center,” I said, reading clearly from the page, “Connor Sterling underwent a permanent, irreversible vasectomy fourteen months ago. Fully documented, verified, and paid for out of our joint account.”
The words hung in the air like a detonation.
Connor whipped his head around to stare at Alyssa, his eyes bulging out of his head. “A... a vasectomy? What is she talking about? Alyssa, tell me she’s lying! You said... you said you got pregnant naturally!”
Alyssa burst into hysterical tears, clutching her stomach and backing away from the altar. “I... I didn't know! I mean—Connor, wait! It’s not what you think!”
“Not what I think?!” Connor screamed, completely losing his composure in front of three hundred high-society witnesses. He lunged toward Alyssa, grabbing her by the shoulders. “Whose baby is it?! Who got you pregnant?! You told me I was a father! You said I finally had my son!”
“Get away from me!” Alyssa shrieked, shoving Connor back so hard he tripped over the floral arrangements and crashed into a towering display of white roses, sending crystal vases shattering across the polished marble floor.
Betsy rushed to her son’s side, shrieking in horror as Connor sat sprawled among broken glass and crushed petals, his expensive tuxedo stained with water and mud.
“Lies!” Betsy screamed at me, her face purple with rage. “All of this is a coordinated forgery! You fabricated medical records to ruin my son’s wedding!”
“Did I?” I asked calmly. I pulled out the final piece of paper—a high-resolution bank transfer receipt showing a fifty-thousand-dollar wire from Alyssa’s personal savings account to a local fitness instructor, accompanied by a string of explicit text messages printed in full color.

I let the text messages drift down like confetti over Connor’s head.
“It seems Alyssa’s loyalty was just as genuine as Connor’s business acumen,” I said, turning to address the stunned crowd of investors and reporters. “Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for attending the greatest comedy show of the year. Feel free to help yourselves to the open bar. The bill will be charged directly to Connor’s personal credit cards—the ones that haven’t been frozen yet.”
