CHAPTER 3 – The Billion-Dollar Betrayal

The recording ended.
No one in the church breathed.
The bride's confident smile vanished as every guest stared at her in disbelief.
"This... this is fake!" she shouted.
But before anyone could respond, the woman in black calmly placed a laptop on the altar.
"Then let's watch the security footage."
She pressed play.
The screen showed a private room inside a luxury hotel just three nights earlier.
The bride sat across from Ethan's mother.
Champagne glasses clinked together.
Then the entire church heard the conversation.
"When the wedding is over," Ethan's mother said, "my son will sign everything over to you. Once you become Mrs. Carter, the company is ours."
The bride smirked.
"And the little girl?"
A chilling silence filled the recording.
Ethan's mother answered without emotion.
"She disappears forever."
A collective gasp swept through the church.
Ethan felt his knees weaken.
The two women he had trusted most had spent years plotting against his own daughter.
His daughter...
The little girl looked up at him with innocent eyes.
"Daddy... are you leaving again?"
The words shattered him.
He dropped to his knees and wrapped his arms around her.
"I'm so sorry," he whispered through tears. "I failed you."
For the first time in six years, father and daughter embraced.
Many guests wiped away tears.
Even the priest quietly looked away.
But the nightmare wasn't over.
The woman in black pulled out one final document.
"This wasn't just about your family."
She handed it to Ethan.
"It's about your company."
His eyes widened.
The document revealed that over the past six years, millions of dollars had quietly disappeared from Carter Holdings through fake consulting contracts.
Every transfer led to shell companies...
Owned by the bride.
And secretly authorized...
By Ethan's own mother.
The total amount stolen:
$487 million.
The church erupted into chaos.
Police officers suddenly entered through the front doors.
No one had called them.
They had been waiting outside all along.
The woman in black smiled.
"I wasn't your late wife's lawyer."
She reached into her purse and displayed a federal badge.
"I'm Special Agent Rebecca Hayes."
She turned toward the bride.
"Emily Brooks, you're under arrest for fraud, conspiracy, money laundering, and attempted kidnapping."
Then she faced Ethan's mother.
"Margaret Carter... you're under arrest for the same charges."
The bride screamed.
Margaret tried to run.
Neither made it more than three steps before they were handcuffed.
As they were led away, Margaret looked back at Ethan.
"I did everything... for this family!"
Ethan's voice was colder than anyone had ever heard.
"No."
"You destroyed it."
The church doors closed behind the police.
Silence returned.
The little girl slipped her tiny hand into Ethan's.
"Daddy..."
"Can we finally go home?"
Ethan smiled through tears.
"Yes."
But before they could leave, Agent Hayes' phone vibrated.
She glanced at the message...
And her expression instantly changed.
She slowly looked back at Ethan.
"I thought you deserved one peaceful moment."
She hesitated.
"But there's something you still don't know."
Ethan frowned.
"What is it?"
Agent Hayes took a deep breath.
"The woman you buried six years ago..."
May you like
"...was never the person lying in that coffin."
