CHAPTER 4: THE MAN EVERYONE THOUGHT WAS DEAD WALKED INTO THE POLICE STATION... AND SPOKE JUST THREE WORDS

The investigation exploded overnight.
News stations called it "The Wedding Murder Plot."
Daniel Brooks sat alone in a maximum-security holding cell, refusing to answer a single question.
Detectives believed they had stopped the mastermind.
They were wrong.
Forty-eight hours later...
Officer Ryan received an unexpected visitor.
An elderly man wearing a dark overcoat walked quietly into the police station.
His hands trembled as he placed an old photograph on Ryan's desk.
The picture showed six young men standing together nearly thirty years earlier.
One of them was the gray-haired man from Daniel's hidden photograph.
Another looked exactly like Daniel.
Ryan frowned.
"Who are you?"
The old man slowly removed his hat.
"My name is Michael Brooks."
Ryan's eyes widened.
Brooks.
Daniel's last name.
"I thought Daniel's father died twenty years ago."
The old man gave a bitter smile.
"So did everyone else."
Meanwhile, Emily couldn't sleep.
Cooper refused to leave her side.
Every night, the loyal Labrador sat beside the front door, staring into the darkness.
As if he knew someone was still watching.
At exactly 2:17 a.m., Cooper began barking furiously.
Emily looked outside.
Nothing.
But across the street...
A porch light suddenly switched off.
Then another.
And another.
Someone was cutting power to the entire neighborhood.
Within seconds...
Emily's security cameras went black.
Her phone lost signal.
Every light inside the house died.
The silence was terrifying.
Then—
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
Three slow knocks echoed from the front door.
Emily froze.
"Who's there?"
No answer.
Only silence.
Cooper stood between Emily and the door, every muscle tense.
Then...
A familiar voice came through the darkness.
"Emily..."
It was Daniel.
But Daniel was supposed to be locked inside jail.
Emily stepped backward.
"No..."
The voice came again.
"Open the door... please."
Cooper exploded into furious barking.
Officer Ryan's words echoed in Emily's mind:
"If Daniel ever contacts you... don't believe anything you hear."
Emily grabbed her phone.
No signal.
She reached for the emergency radio Ryan had left earlier.
Static.
Then suddenly...
One clear voice.
"Emily... don't open the door."
It was Ryan.
Breathing heavily.
"They escaped."
Emily's heart stopped.
"They?"
Before Ryan could finish...
A deafening crash shattered the living room window.
Masked men flooded into the house.
Cooper charged without hesitation, knocking the first attacker to the ground.
Emily ran upstairs as footsteps thundered behind her.
She slammed the bedroom door shut and pushed a dresser against it.
The attackers pounded on the door.
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
The wood began to crack.
Emily looked around desperately for another way out.
Then she noticed something strange.
Behind an old painting was a small metal safe she had never seen before.
Inside...
There was only one item.
A faded envelope addressed in her late mother's handwriting.
Across the front, three chilling words were written in red ink:
"IF THEY RETURN..."
Emily opened it with trembling hands.
Inside was a single key...
And a handwritten note.
"The truth isn't in this house. It's beneath Blackwood Manor. Trust no one... not even the police."
At that exact moment...
The bedroom door burst open.
And the first person Emily saw wasn't one of the masked attackers.
It was Officer Ryan...
Pointing a gun directly at her.
"Give me the key," he said coldly.
May you like
"Or Cooper dies first."
To be continued...
