Chapter 7 - The Federal RaidTilda and Viktor sprinted down the private executive stairwell toward the ground-floor lobby. Every muscle in Tilda’s body tensed as the reality of the situation set in. Elena Vance wasn't just an assistant; she was a plant. A federal mole inside the Vale empire, feeding information straight to her father.

As they reached the heavy glass doors of the grand ground-floor lobby, Tilda froze.

The lobby was surrounded.

Four black Federal Bureau of Investigation tactical vans were parked right outside the revolving glass doors, their emergency strobes painting the marble floors in flashing shades of blue and red. Armed federal agents in full tactical gear—bulletproof vests, helmets, and assault rifles—had secured the perimeter.

Standing in the center of the lobby, flanked by two armed agents, was a tall, silver-haired man in an impeccably tailored navy suit. His face was weathered, his expression carved from absolute authority.

Agent Marcus Vance.

Beside him stood Elena Vance, her usual timid demeanor replaced by a cold, triumphant smile. She was holding a secure flash drive containing the encrypted manifests Viktor had just told Tilda about.

"Well, well, well," Agent Vance said, his voice echoing off the marble pillars. He stepped forward, flashing a gold badge. "Viktor Rossi. And Ms. Tilda Baron. The infamous waitress turned corporate philanthropist."

Viktor’s hand slowly drifted toward the concealed firearm under his jacket.

"Don't even think about it, Rossi," Vance warned, raising his hand. A dozen rifle barrels instantly pivoted toward them. "My tactical team has the entire building surrounded. Warrants are signed, sealed, and delivered. The Vale empire’s clean-money illusion just shattered."

Elena stepped forward, looking straight at Tilda with an expression of pure betrayal. "Sorry, Tilda. Some of us actually believe in the law, not a mob boss who buys his way out of sin."

Tilda’s heart raced, but deep inside, the panic was rapidly being replaced by a sharp, calculating anger. She looked at the flash drive in Elena’s hand, then at Agent Vance’s smug grin.

"You think you won," Tilda said, her voice cutting through the lobby like glass.

Vance raised an eyebrow, stepping closer. "Excuse me?"

"You think you finally trapped Damon," Tilda said, stepping out from behind Viktor, her chin held high. "You think these altered manifests prove he’s laundering syndicate money through the community foundation."

"They don't just prove it, Ms. Baron—they guarantee Damon Vale spends the rest of his natural life in a maximum-security federal penitentiary," Vance said with a chilling smile.

"Except for one tiny detail," Tilda replied smoothly.

Vance’s smile faltered slightly. "What detail?"

Tilda reached into her jacket pocket, pulled out her own encrypted corporate tablet, and tapped the screen twice.

"Those manifests your daughter stole from terminal four?" Tilda said, her voice echoing clearly across the lobby. "They were uploaded to the cloud at midnight. But they aren't the real syndicate logs, Agent Vance. They're a honeypot."

Elena’s face instantly lost all its color. "That’s impossible... I downloaded them directly from the secure server!"

"You downloaded the files Damon planted specifically to catch the mole," Tilda said, a cold, confident smirk touching her lips. "Every single transaction on that flash drive traces back directly to a shell corporation owned by Marcus Vance’s own reelection campaign fund. In other words, Agent Vance... you just incriminated yourself for corporate espionage and evidence tampering."

The lobby fell into a dead, suffocating silence.

Agent Vance stared at Tilda, his face twisting from smug arrogance into pure, unadulterated shock. He looked at his daughter, whose hands were shaking violently as she clutched the flash drive.

"You're lying," Vance hissed, stepping forward aggressively.

"Try running the cryptographic hash on that drive right now, Agent," Tilda challenged, crossing her arms. "I'll give you ten seconds before the federal prosecutor’s office gets an automated alert that a rogue agent is mishandling classified evidence."

Before Vance could lunge forward, the glass revolving doors behind him slowly pushed open.

A familiar, icy voice drifted through the lobby, stopping everyone in their tracks.

"Agent Vance," Damon Vale said softly, stepping out of a private elevator from the penthouse, looking as calm as if he were walking into a boardroom meeting. "Welcome to my building. Let’s talk about why you're harassing my staff."
