Chapter 20 - Empire of Gold and Blood

Five years later.

The grand ballroom of the Fairmont Copley Plaza glittered just as brightly as it had on the night Dileia first served champagne to ungrateful senators.

Crystal chandeliers cast fractured light across silk and couture. The ice sculpture in the center of the room was still a swan, six feet tall, but tonight it wasn't melting—it was the centerpiece of a charity gala hosted entirely by the Foster-Falcone Foundation, the largest pediatric healthcare fund in New England.

Dileia stood near the grand staircase, wearing a custom-tailored emerald gown that commanded the attention of every person in the room. She wasn't holding a silver tray anymore. She held a glass of French champagne, her hand resting lightly on the arm of the most powerful man on the East Coast.

Across the ballroom, a young man of eighteen in a sharp tuxedo was laughing with a group of university friends—Toby, healthy, vibrant, and preparing for his first semester at Harvard.

A nervous young waitress, wearing the classic black service uniform, walked past them with a tray of champagne glasses, her eyes nervously darting toward the floor as she tried to remain invisible.

Dileia paused. She gently set her glass down on a passing tray, walked over to the young server, and stopped right in front of her.

The waitress froze, looking up in sheer terror.

Dileia didn't look like a mafia queen. She smiled—a warm, genuine, knowing smile—and reached out to gently straighten the girl’s crooked collar.

"Keep your head up," Dileia whispered softly, her eyes shining with the memory of a storm she had survived. "You don't have to hide anymore."

The young server stared at her, dumbfounded, as Dileia turned back to the man waiting for her—the mafia boss who had come to a party just to find her, and ended up rewriting the stars.

Adriano offered his arm. She took it. And together, they walked into the future they had conquered with their own hands.
