Chapter 6 - The Real Wealth

Three months later, the dust had finally settled over Manhattan. The public offering of Vale Strategic Consulting had been delayed, but the company’s reputation had survived, now rebranded under a new ethos of corporate responsibility led by Aaron and a reinstated Elena as Chief Financial Officer. Richard Hale was awaiting trial, his empire reduced to a legal defense fund.

But none of that mattered to Aaron anymore.

It was another bright Sunday morning in Central Park. The joggers were out, the dogs were pulling at their leashes, and the city was moving at its usual frantic pace.

Aaron sat on the same bench beneath the wide oak tree near Bethesda Fountain. But this time, he wasn't alone.

Elena sat beside him, a travel mug of coffee between them, her shoulder lightly resting against his. She looked happier, the lines of exhaustion gone from her face, replaced by a radiant peace.

Across the grass, Iris was riding a brand-new pink bicycle. She still had her dark braided pigtails tied with yellow ribbons, but she wasn't wearing a faded dress anymore. She was wearing a bright jacket, laughing loudly as she pedaled forward.

She wobbled slightly.

Aaron immediately stood up, stepping onto the grass, his long strides covering the distance in seconds. He caught the back of the seat, stabilizing her.

Iris looked up at him, a massive, brilliant smile lighting up her face. "Again, Daddy! Let’s do it again!"

Aaron felt a warm tear slip down his cheek, but he didn't wipe it away. He didn't care who saw the billionaire cry. He looked back at Elena, who was watching them with tears in her own eyes, nodding gently.

The man who had spent thirty-nine years building walls of glass and marble had finally found something that money could never buy. He wasn't lonely anymore. He had a small team, a strong team—and finally, he was home.
