Chapter 6 - THE SILENT WAR

Flashbang grenades bounced across the hardwood floor, exploding in a blinding light and deafening noise.
Robert was thrown to the ground, his ears ringing. Through the smoke, he saw armed men in unmarked tactical gear Rappelling through the broken windows.
"Marcus!" Robert screamed, coughing violently. "Protect Ethan!"
But Marcus didn't raise his weapon.
Instead, Marcus Vance stepped over Robert, his face completely expressionless. He drew his sidearm, but he didn't point it at the intruders. He pointed it at Robert.
"I'm sorry, Robert," Marcus said, his voice cold. "But the board pays much better. And they don't ask us to play nursemaid to a crippled kid."
Robert’s heart shattered. His most trusted ally, the man who had guarded his family for over a decade, had betrayed him.
The masked soldiers grabbed Lily and Ethan. Ethan was screaming, his useless legs dragging on the carpet as they pulled him toward the window ropes.
"No! Let him go!" Robert roared, trying to stand, but a soldier struck him in the ribs with the butt of a rifle, sending him crashing back down to the floor.
"We have the boy and the prototype," Marcus said into his earpiece. "Initiate Phase Two. Erase the penthouse."
One of the soldiers set a small, metallic device on Robert’s desk. A digital timer began counting down from sixty seconds.
"Goodbye, Robert," Marcus said. "You were a great boss. But business is business."
They began to ascend up the ropes toward a hovering, silent helicopter masked by the rainy night sky.
Robert lay on the floor, gasping for air, his ribs screaming in pain. The timer on the desk read: 00:42.
He was going to die. His son was gone. His empire was ruined.
Then, a small, cold hand grabbed his wrist.
It was Lily.
She hadn't been taken. She had slipped away in the chaos, using her advanced camouflage system to blend into the shadows of the room.
"We have forty seconds," Lily said. "Can you run?"
May you like
"My son..." Robert choked out.
"They took a decoy," Lily said, showing a small, holographic projector in her hand. "I spoofed their bio-scanners. Ethan is in the dumbwaiter. But we need to leave. Now."
