Chapter 8 - A New Beginning

Three months later.

The morning sun streamed through the wide glass windows of a sprawling, sun-drenched estate overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Carmel-by-the-Sea.

There were no guards standing by the front door with hidden weapons. No tinted G-Wagons idling in the driveway. Just a quiet, peaceful coastline, the sound of crashing waves, and the bright laughter of a little boy running across the lawn.

"Mama! Look! A sailboat!"

Noah yelled, pointing out toward the blue horizon as he chased a golden retriever across the grass, his little red toy train clutched tightly in his hand.

I smiled, leaning against the kitchen counter with a mug of coffee in my hand, feeling a sense of deep, permanent peace I had never known was possible.

Strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind, and a familiar scent—bergamot, cedarwood, and absolute safety—filled my senses.

"He’s getting too fast," Daniel murmured against my neck, pressing a soft kiss to my jawline as he watched our son play outside. "I think we need to sign him up for soccer."

I turned around in his arms, resting my hands against his chest, looking up into those dark, intense eyes that now held only warmth and devotion.

"You're spoiling him," I teased, raising an eyebrow. "He already has a room full of wooden trains."

"A boy can never have too many trains," Daniel grinned, sliding his hands down to hold my hips. "Besides, I’m just making up for lost time."

"Four years' worth?" I whispered.

"Every single day of it," he replied softly, before leaning down to capture my lips in a slow, lingering kiss that tasted like forever.

Outside, Noah’s happy laughter echoed on the breeze, completely untouched by the dark secrets of the past, safe in the arms of a family that had fought through hell to finally become whole.
