CHAPTER 6 — The Courtroom Revelation
The courtroom was packed.
Reporters filled every bench.
Victoria walked in wearing black, acting like a grieving sister.
Jason sat beside her with a perfect suit and fake sadness.
Their lawyer stood and spoke first.
"Emma Carter is not blood family."
"She manipulated an ill man."
"She has no legal or moral claim to Carter Technologies."
Whispers filled the room.
Emma sat silently.
Then her lawyer opened the old notebook.
One page.
One signature.
One truth.
"This notebook belonged to Olivia Hayes Carter."
Emma's late mother.
The lawyer continued.
"Inside are original designs, formulas, and legal partnership notes proving Olivia co-created the foundation technology behind Carter Technologies."
Victoria's face turned pale.
The judge leaned forward.
"Are these documents authenticated?"
Emma's lawyer smiled.
"Yes, Your Honor."
"By Richard Carter himself."
A video began playing.
Richard appeared on screen from his hospital bed.
Weak.
But clear.
"If you are watching this, Victoria has tried to erase Emma the same way she erased Olivia."
Gasps filled the courtroom.
Victoria stood.
"No!"
Richard's video continued.
"Olivia owned forty percent of the original company."
"After her death, those shares legally passed to Emma."
"And I recently gave Emma an additional eleven percent."
"That makes Emma Carter the rightful majority owner."
Jason buried his face in his hands.
Victoria screamed,
"She is not a Carter!"
On the screen, Richard smiled sadly.
"She became more of a Carter than any of you..."
"The day she protected what you tried to destroy."
The judge ruled before noon.
Emma remained majority owner.
Victoria's petition was dismissed.
Jason was ordered to surrender all company access.
Outside the courthouse, reporters surrounded Emma.
"Miss Carter, what will you do now?"
Emma looked at the cameras.
Then at Victoria.
Then at Jason.
Her answer shocked everyone.
"I'm not here to destroy my family."
"I'm here to rebuild what they forgot."
But later that night...
Emma received one anonymous message.
Your mother didn't die by accident.
