CHAPTER 4 — The Sister Who Was Erased

The photograph wouldn't leave Sophia's mind.
A little girl.
Dark curls.
A bright yellow dress.
Standing beside her father.
On the back...
Only six words.
"Find your sister before they do."
Sophia searched every family album.
Nothing.
Every picture with the little girl had disappeared.
Every birth certificate...
Gone.
Every hospital record...
Erased.
Jonathan hadn't hidden an inheritance.
He had hidden a person.
His lawyer finally broke his silence.
"There was another child."
Sophia stared.
"My father had another daughter?"
The old lawyer shook his head.
"No."
"You did."
Sophia's heartbeat stopped.
"You were born a twin."
The room fell silent.
Jonathan's enemies had kidnapped one of the babies hours after birth.
To protect the surviving child...
Jonathan convinced the world there had only ever been one daughter.
For thirty-two years...
Sophia had lived believing she was an only child.
Meanwhile...
Her sister had been raised under another name.
Another family.
Another life.
The lawyer slid a sealed envelope across the desk.
Inside...
A recent photograph.
A woman who looked almost identical to Sophia.
Same eyes.
Same smile.
Same tiny scar above the eyebrow.
Her name now was...
Emma Reed.
She lived quietly as a high-school history teacher in Oregon.
She had no idea who she really was.
But someone else had already found her.
Across the street from Emma's house...
A black SUV waited.
A man lifted a phone.
May you like
"We found the second heir."
"Bring her in."
