CHAPTER 6 — The Second Monster

By midnight, the northern village was gone.

Houses burned.

Fields turned to ash.

Survivors arrived at the palace gates screaming about a pale creature with silver fur, white eyes, and bones showing beneath its skin.

They called it The Moon-Eater.

The old healer revealed the truth in a shaking voice.

“Long ago, two guardian beasts protected this land. The Black Wolf guarded life. The Silver Wolf guarded death.”

The king whispered,

“Then why is it attacking us?”

The healer looked directly at Prince Adrian.

“Because someone woke it.”

The throne room fell silent.

Adrian’s face hardened.

Then Elias noticed something beneath his brother’s sleeve.

A fresh burn.

Shaped like a wolf’s fang.

The same mark found on ancient forbidden summoning stones.

Elias stepped forward.

“You did this.”

Adrian’s mask finally broke.

His smile turned cold.

“You came back from the dead and stole everything from me.”

Elias shook his head.

“I never wanted the throne.”

“No,” Adrian hissed. “But the throne wants you.”

Then the palace doors exploded open.

Cold wind filled the hall.

Torches turned blue.

Outside the gates, the Silver Wolf stood beneath the moon, enormous and skeletal, its eyes glowing like dead stars.

And beside it…

The Black Wolf limped from the darkness, wounded but still standing.

For the first time, Elias understood.

This was not a battle for the throne.

It was a battle between two ancient powers.

Life and death.

Truth and betrayal.

And both beasts were waiting for him to choose.

Adrian pulled the king’s sword from its display and pointed it at Elias.

“Let’s see who the kingdom kneels to now.”

The Silver Wolf howled.

The Black Wolf lowered its head.

And Elias stepped into the storm
