Chapter 10 - The Sovereign QueenSix months later.

The sun was setting over the gorgeous coastline of Malibu, painting the sky in vibrant shades of bruised purple, fiery orange, and soft gold.

Skylar stood on the private balcony of her newly purchased oceanfront estate, holding a crystal glass of sparkling water. The faint scar on her cheek was barely visible now, expertly faded by top-tier dermatological care—a subtle reminder of a battle she had won, rather than a wound that defined her.

Her phone buzzed on the glass patio table beside her.

She picked it up. It was an email notification from her legal team: All corporate assets successfully restructured. Final offshore bank accounts liquidated and deposited into the Skylar Foundation for Domestic Abuse Survivors.

She smiled—a genuine, radiant, peaceful smile.

She looked down at her left hand. The ring finger was bare, light, and unburdened by the heavy platinum band that had once symbolized a cage disguised as a marriage.

Derek was currently eating cold processed meals in a maximum-security cell four hundred miles away, forgotten by the world, reduced to a cautionary tale whispered about on the internet whenever people talked about the true cost of toxic control.

Chloe was scrubbing prison floors, paying her debt to society with every aching muscle.

And Skylar?

Skylar was free. She was wealthy, powerful, untouchable, and completely sovereign over her own life, her own mind, and her own destiny.

She took a slow sip of her water, raised her glass toward the vast, open ocean, and whispered into the evening wind:

"Checkmate."
