CHAPTER 2: THE SECRET INSIDE THE ARMREST

I carried the packages onto my kitchen table.
Jerry sat beside me, watching silently.
The same dog who had barked all night suddenly became calm.
As if his job was done.
I opened the first package.
Inside were dozens of photographs.
Old photographs.
Many of them showed the same young woman.
Beautiful.
Dark-haired.
Smiling.
But something felt wrong.
As I continued flipping through them, my stomach tightened.
The photos became increasingly disturbing.
The woman appeared frightened.
Then injured.
Then bruised.
In several pictures she seemed unaware she was being photographed.
The final image made my blood run cold.
The woman was tied to a chair.
Crying.
Looking directly into the camera.
I immediately opened the second package.
This one contained cash.
Stacks and stacks of hundred-dollar bills.
Far more money than I had ever seen.
At least fifty thousand dollars.
My hands shook.
But the third package terrified me most.
Inside was a small notebook.
The cover was worn and stained.
The pages contained names.
Dates.
Addresses.
Phone numbers.
And strange notes beside each entry.
Some names were crossed out with red ink.
Every instinct told me something was terribly wrong.
I contacted the police.
Within an hour, detectives arrived.
The moment they saw the notebook, their expressions changed.
One detective looked at another.
Neither spoke for several seconds.
Finally, he asked:
"Where exactly did you get this couch?"
I told him.
The detective went pale.
Then he revealed something shocking.
The woman in the photographs had disappeared nearly eight years earlier.
Her case had never been solved.
The notebook belonged to a suspect who vanished shortly after the investigation began.
Authorities believed he had fled the country.
No one had seen him since.
The couch I bought wasn't just second-hand furniture.
It had once belonged to him.
Suddenly, every strange thing made sense.
Jerry hadn't been acting crazy.
He had found evidence hidden for almost a decade.
But the nightmare wasn't over.
Because later that evening, someone knocked on my front door.
And when I checked the security camera, my blood froze.
May you like
A man wearing a black hoodie was staring directly into the lens.
As if he knew exactly what had been found.
