Chapter 15

The formal opening of the Moretti Community Center on the South Side became front-page news across Illinois. Hundreds of local residents, families, and city officials gathered beneath a massive white tent to celebrate the inauguration of the state-of-the-art facility, funded entirely by Moretti Holdings.
I stood at the podium on the outdoor stage, wearing a tailored charcoal suit, resting one hand lightly on the wooden lectern while walking upright with a discreet carbon-fiber cane.
“For too long, neighborhoods like the South Side have been defined by survival, by debt, and by the shadows cast by violence,” I spoke into the microphone, my voice steady and resonant, carrying across the packed courtyard. “Today, we change that narrative. This center isn't built on charity or corporate guilt. It’s built on the belief that no matter how hard life hits you, and no matter how impossible the odds seem, you can always rebuild from the ground up.”
Applause thundered through the crowd, deafening and genuine.
