Chapter 7 - Whispers of a New Dawn

The sun dipped below the tree line, painting the sky in brilliant shades of amber, violet, and gold. The frantic screams of Alana and Ellie faded into the distance as their battered sedan sputtered down the dirt road, tires kicking up dust in their wake.

They were gone for good. There was no inheritance waiting for them, no country house to steal, and no innocent child left to suffer their cruelty.

I walked back onto the patio where Dustin was chasing a firefly across the grass, his bright laughter echoing into the warm summer air.

My phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out, expecting another desperate text from Parker’s new lawyer or an unknown number from his mother.

Instead, it was an official notification from my bank, confirming the final transfer of the property title and sole ownership accounts into my exclusive registry—free, clear, and legally untouchable.

Below that, a simple text message from my own mother in the city:

“Headed your way for Sunday brunch, sweetie. Bringing extra fried chicken—real chicken, for the whole family. Love you both.”

I smiled, a deep, genuine warmth spreading through my chest.

I looked out across the sprawling green lawn, past the blooming garden where Dustin’s bright red ball rested safely among the petunias. The nightmare was over. The storm had passed, leaving behind a world built on strength, truth, and unyielding love.
