Chapter 10 - The HorizonThree months later, the sun was setting over Garden View, painting the sky in brilliant shades of amber, violet, and gold.

The legal battle hadn't just ended; it had been an absolute annihilation. Stripped of her leverage, exposed for witness tampering and financial coercion, Eleanor Holloway had dropped the petition and retreated behind the high gates of her empty estate, completely isolated and utterly defeated.
In the backyard of the Maple Street house, a small wooden swing hung from the sturdy branch of an old oak tree.
Leo was sitting in it, laughing hysterically as Adrian pushed him higher and higher into the evening air.
"Higher, Daddy! Higher!" the boy yelled.
"Careful, you're going to touch the clouds!" Adrian called back, grinning from ear to ear.
Vivian stood on the back porch, leaning against the wooden railing with a mug of steaming coffee in her hands. She wore a soft gray sweater, her hair down, catching the evening breeze. A gentle smile graced her lips—a smile free of ghosts, fear, and shadows.
Adrian walked over, wiping a light sheen of sweat from his forehead, and leaned against the railing beside her. He reached out, his fingers sliding over hers until their hands locked together.
"Penny for your thoughts, Dr. Carter," he murmured softly.
Vivian turned her head, looking up into his slate-gray eyes—the exact same eyes as the little boy currently trying to climb the oak tree.

"I was just thinking," Vivian said, leaning her head against his shoulder, "that you finally figured out how to be useful."
Adrian laughed, wrapping his arms securely around her waist, pulling her close against his chest as the sun dipped below the horizon, bathing their new beginning in golden light.
