Chapter 8 - THE ASHES OF AMBITIONThe fall of Hale Industries was swift, merciless, and broadcast across every major news network in America by noon.

Live helicopter footage showed federal agents hauling boxes of evidence out of the grand lobby of Hale Tower. Arthur Vance and Sarah Jenkins were led out in handcuffs, their faces shielded by expensive jackets as reporters shouted an endless barrage of questions.
By afternoon, the stock price of Hale Industries had plummeted by eighty-two percent trading was halted, and emergency regulators froze all corporate assets pending a comprehensive federal audit.
Warren Hale sat alone in his massive, stripped-down executive office. The mahogany desk was completely cleared of papers. The expensive artwork had been removed by federal marshals. Only a single, worn-out photograph of Tyson as a young boy remained standing upright on the wood.
The heavy oak door creaked open.
Elena Lin stepped inside, holding a small paper bag containing her belongings. Beside her, Maya skipped across the plush carpet, stopping right in front of Warren’s desk.
"Mr. Hale?" Maya asked softly, tilting her head. "Are you going to prison too?"
Warren looked down at the little girl. A faint, genuine smile—the first real smile he had worn in over a decade—touched the corners of his mouth.
"No, Maya," Warren said, kneeling down so he was at eye level with her. "I’m not going to prison. But I am stepping down as CEO. The government is restructuring the company, and every cent of my personal fortune is going into a public restitution fund for the families affected by the collapse."
Elena stepped forward, her eyes filled with quiet gratitude. "Thank you, Mr. Hale. For everything. We... we didn't know what would happen to us."
"You have a home," Warren said firmly, standing up and handing Elena a sealed legal document. "The tenement building you live in has been signed over completely to you, free and clear of all debts and management fees. Furthermore, a full academic scholarship has been established in Tyson’s name to cover Maya’s education all the way through university."
Maya’s eyes widened in disbelief. She reached into her faded blue coat and pulled out the folded drawing she had brought to the cemetery just days ago.

"You can keep this," Maya whispered, pressing the crayon-drawn picture of the two children sitting on the giant maple tree into Warren’s calloused hand. "Tyson said that whenever you looked at it, you’d remember how to build something real."
Warren gently took the paper, holding it as if it were the most valuable architectural blueprint in the world.
