Chapter 10 - The Only Contract That MattersThree weeks later, the autumn leaves were turning a brilliant shade of amber and crimson across the sprawling lawns of my estate.

The house was quiet, but it was a warm, living silence—filled with the sound of laughter floating up from the backyard, where Mrs. Gable was helping Lily and Owen chase a golden retriever puppy we had adopted from the local shelter.

"Daddy! Come down! The puppy found a squirrel!"
I looked down, a genuine, unforced smile spreading across my face. I knelt down, swept Lily up into my arms, and hoisted her onto my shoulders, where she let out a bright, musical laugh that chased away every remaining ghost in the house.
